Children are an existential paradoxes: they are born corrupt, vile, debased, grouping, selfless little savage beasts that yet can be sweet, charming and innocent in an innate, uninformed way.
As they develop in all ways, this also includes their moral growth, that unnatural, individualistic journey uninformed innocence to a mature stage of earned, informed innocence. The moral journey to adulthood is the only journey ultimately worth taking, and it is deeply intertwined with such concepts as loving, godliness, liberty and happiness.
