Greedy governments are bankrupting seniors. There is a disturbing article on the Drudge Report tonight about property taxes so high in Seattle, that people are going to have to leave the city.
Our lake place--192-- out in the country. We get some very modest sheriff protection and they plough the road in front of the lake in the winter when most of us are in town.
We provide our own water, our own sewer, our our trash pickup, and all other expenses. The property taxes in 2017 were $2000 and they just increased them to $2200 for 2018. It is well known in Minnesota that lake home owners in town are carrying many of the non-agricultural rural counties, andit is getting worse. To make it worse, the state has a special fund where cabin owners pay about $300 to $400 a year apiece to the general fund, over above property taxes assessed.
We were promised relief from that last year, and no relief came. That share went up 3% and Hubbard County raised our property taxes 10%, and we cannot vote on that increase.
Minnesotans should allow lake homes and recreational homes to have a 2nd homestead exemption--that would help.
Government get so big and so greedy that its legal theft of our resources is a sin and a crime. When will it end? When will it stop? Where will the relief come from?
