Mark Levin makes special, accented emphasis that America is about liberty. Hoffer, 50 years ago is commenting that the burden of freedom for the American individual is a mixture of open horizons and heavy responsibilities, and this is the autonomous individual's glory and challenge. Hoffer felt that the individual's freedom here was greater here than anywhere else.
It is not difficult to see the line of thinking straight down to Jordan Peterson's sovereign Western individual with near complete freedom of thought and speech necessary for the individual finding meaning and responsibility as he takes on as heavy a moral burden as he can bear or dares to bear.
From there is but a few steps to my view that we cannot reason, think, or imagine properly at full bore if not reasoning and imagining in an atmosphere of enormous personal liberty. The self-actualizing supercitizen would draw inspiration from the musings of all these political philosophers.
This is why we must soundly defeat and turn back American Marxism and its postmodernist epistemology. America is humanity's last best hope, so our constitutional republic must be preserved, so that Americans can do their own thing in a political system promoting and supporting maximum, reasonable and legal liberty. Preserving this greatest political system and high culture is not only necessary for the sake of American citizens and individuators, but for people in foreign countries to emulate in their own societies.
