Here is that verse from my The New American Bible: "Lot, therefore, chose for himself the whole Jordan plain and set out eastward. Thus they separated from each other; Abram stayed in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the Plain, pitching his tents near Sodom. Now the inhabitants of Sodom were very wicked in the sins they committed against the Lord."
Lot lacks any wisdom, setting among the worst people that he could find. The sin of homosexuality seems to be their primary offense, but adultery, fornication, neglect of the poor and needy, idleness, luxury, fullness of bread were the others.
Why would Yahweh outlaw homosexuality, and then create gays, lesbians, transgenders and bisexuals? Here is another Biblical inconsistency that I cannot resolve, but I will try. God made and loves such minorities, and they are to find their own kind to have relations, even civil marriages with. For cisgender or straight people, about 90% of the majority of humans, should not marry, fall in love with, or have sexual relations with LBTG minority members. No one should be committing adultery or fornication.
None of the LBTG crowd should be persecuted, nor target in any way, legally, religiously or socially. Nor should they have special, allotted special class, aristocratic status to bully the majority, straight society. All should individuate and let sexual preference and sexual orientation be just group marker without special significance. Mostly we need to all get over obsessing about sex and sexuality and urge every human to maverize as developed individuals. Where the personal group markers and group affiliations come into play is how personal background, genetic, chosen or socially generated, can color and inform how one uniquely maverizes.
Here is this passage from the Holy Bible (KJV): "Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent towards Sodom. But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly."
Jehovah was a just and benevolent deity. He knew that the world is a never-ending battle ground between the forces of good and evil. To sin wickedly against God and God's commandments, was to rebel gleefully, openly and defiantly, as the Sodomites elected to wallow in spiritual and moral darkness.
Jehovah disallowed that such enemies of God should flourish, let alone live. God wants humans to be loyal, loving and good. Acting good is commensurate with being spiritually good, and this is the ideal that God sets in front of each of us. To fail to honor that invitation is to invite divine wrath hurled down upon oneself as the Sodomites did.
Another thought is that Jehovah gave that land of Canaan to the descendants of Abraham, so no modern country or opponents of Israel have a right to rob them of their land, their existence, their homeland, and their heritage going back thousands of years.
