Narcissism is noisome, unwholesome self-absorption, but that is neither self-love, nor self-interest, To love at all, let alone love the self is to practice moderation, that ethical axiom. This entails that the egoist be self-interested, but oriented to work, produce, become, originate, ponder, think, innovate, invent, and create. Such sustained, self-disciplining efforts to push the self to grow, develop and make the world a better place cannot have anything to do with poisonous self-absorption, seeking pleasure exclusively, to gratify oneself without aim or purpose.
