We are born sinners, deeply flawed, and finite, limited creatures. This is our basic condition. What then is a reasonable, achievable goal for a person to strive towards?
Only God can achieve actual, pure moral perfection, or the next thing to it. For each human, it is enough, a moral victory indeed, if one aims not for moral perfection, but is ever self-perfecting while alive.
It matters not so much how far one gets along the path towards ethical goodness as long as one is plodding forward, gaining ground, despite personal backsliding, plateauing and just fatalistic inertness of will. Over time you should make headway towards your goal of being a better person tomorrow than you were yesterday.
