Edina is spending 500 million dollars to demolish and replace the 1960s Pentagon Park with a hotel, office and retail space and maybe some housing.
What would be more novel and would generate jobs that pay real wages, would be to not do the redeveloping but agree to give free property taxes, low rent, and pay the corporate income tax for any factory or start-up company for 30 years. We need more real jobs, not gimmicks like condos, retail malls, ubiquitous hotels, etc, that give us thousands of minimum wage jobs.
Even better, Minnesota should abolish income tax, cut state spending by 50% and eliminate any corporate income tax: that would create jobs, and the economy would boom. The Left would pass out here at this daring, proven, workable plan.
What would really create jobs would be for Edina to build an oil refinery on that site. That would really spur growth and prosperity in Minnesota.
