I did courier delivery of books to the library on Macalester College campus this evening. It was a lovely campus, peaceful, dignified, and civilized where academics and scholars could while away their hours in this garden of learning and culture, far from the dirty, noisy, mercenary hustle and bustle of goods and serviced being transacted hither and yon, but a few blocks away.
It brought back to me the ivory tower refuge that I enjoyed so much in my youth, far from the mading crowd. This secluded, protected, isolated, privileged sanctuary would serve as a great paradigm for centers of learning and salon debates, like a green and peaceful haven from the world, which I envision for canton life for indviduator-anarchists.
Academia, though, needs lots of interaction with the world of business and commerce, to ensure that that moderate ideal is met, that clash of ideas tested in the secular world again and again.
