The moderate, wise attitude is not to trust too much in anything: in promises, in asssurances that people will remain faithful, that traditions will not be shattered, etc.
God and the Good Spirits are ever faithful, but, beyond them, we are fallible, weak, limited humans that wear down, get tired, and lapse back into our sinful ways.
Trust and appreciate those that are loyal allies, loving and faithful, but never rely on anyone or anything too much. Betrayal and broken words occur all to frequently Rely on yourself most of the time while not losing faith in the good natures of others, or coming to despair of them, or despising them for their letting you down.
