Evil is of course the absence or privation of God, but it is more, much more than that. It exists in its own right, eternally, and follows no rules but its own, and it cannot be completely defined or anticipated. Likely it cannot be vanquished completely or forever.
Satan the male head demon lives and exists. He means no one well, and he causes untold suffering in the world.
Evil exists for its own reasons, hating, hurting and destroying for no positive benefit at all that anyone can see.
Still, God or Fate can curb evil, or redirect it to good ends, or evil also serves some good as an immoral election available to all rational agents exercising their free agency, for without evil and the reality of divine rewards and punishments of consequence, the concept of free agency is empty, for it must involve individual choice, individual responsibility and accountability for choices made, and divine sanctions metered out in consequence.
