I saw an appealing meme on Facebook tonight: Love comes naturally. Hate is taught. The picture shows a black man reaching out and touching the hand of a white baby held by her (I believe it was a she.) mother. This meme is to make us feel good, that we are born good, that love is natural and to hate is learned by how people are mis-nurtured.
Feelings aside, the truth is just the opposite. We are born in sin, and we are natural joiners or collectivists. This means we tribally regard our own biological and social groups as perfect and rival tribes and foreign groups as strangers and enemies to be feared, hated, fought, and opposed.
Hating or being bigoted or prejudiced is natural and universal. To be taught morality, to be taught to strengthen our ability to love others by first loving God, the truth, ourselves, our family, and our community are how we will be socially trained to love. If most adults were individuals and individuators, racism and hate would disappear.
