He has been criticized by Levin and others for his naive democracy project, but my reaction is more measured. I liked the Bush democracy project at the time, and I still do.
The people must run society, run the government, and run the world. We need elites of no kind to run our lives anymore. An effective democracy project will make people, equal, free and powerful.
Levin asserts that we need a civil society before people get democracy, and he is right. I would argue that they go and grow hand in hand. A people, that would individuate, grow powerful and smart as supercitizens and free market lawless anarchist, would be the ideal people bringing a respect for law and law and order that would make the civil society, exist and function. Add to this God's presence and blessing and a capitalist economy and very small government, and the democracy project would survive and serve any people well.
