This paradox is a wise, prudent, complex approach to taking risks. One should not take unnecessary or foolish risks, let alone suicidal risks.
But one cannot be too risk averse, or one will be cut off from opportunity, and rewarding transformation. Still it it better to be cautious than reckless, but there is a time to be bold when our hunches remind that now is the time to strike when the iron is hot.
And, there may be a time, say a 3 year old child is waddling into traffic, and you put your life at risk or even lose your life to save that child, it is your duty rescue the baby, no matter how damaging the attempt is for you, a crippling, or life-ending experience.
