Morning News in Minneapolis on 1/18/2021

The Progressive local channel was celebrating doing "good things" on MLK day. They featured a story with a cute, little 5 year old black girl who was getting a library set up for Black History. Hundreds of books had been donated by an enthused public. Her Mom was effusive, telling the reporter that this experience teaches her young daughter to be empowered and inspired. The gushing reporter enthusiastically assented,noting how fine it was to train children early to adopt as their aim a life of activism. My counter to this is the conservative axiom that the best way to bring up a child to make the better place is for the child to improve himself. By improving himself, and thus trained millions of other individual chidren, we end up with a generation coming of age as contributors and winners, not parasites and damagers of the system.To add my Mavellonialist take, I would train each childre to self-develop and self-reform as individuators. There is no more powerful reform than that. Nothing will work better for societal improvement. To posit that each child is basically good, and all the problems are out there in society, so activism is critical to addressing those problems out there, that is the Progressive, erroneous argument.
