In her book, The Virtue of Selfishness, Ayn Rand on Page 13 reports that egoism is just now, in the 20th century being discovered: “Yes, this is an age of moral crisis . . . . Your moral code has reached its climax, the blind alley at the end of its course. And if you wish to go on living, what you now need is not to return to morality . . . . but to discover it.”
My response: Ayn Rand was a moral genius. She recognized over 60 years ago that altruistic morality was moribund, that people could not survive by returning to it. Therefore she avows that if people wish to go on living, they need to discover new morality, egoist ethics, and she is most correct.
