Inner Happiness

Jordan Peterson disallows that pursuing self-esteem and inner happiness are worth pursuing. He instead wants people to embrace the suffering inherent to existing, and then to take up all the ethical responsibility that they can to improve themselves, first, and thereby improving the world indirectly. Such a life well-lived is meaningful and fulfilling and is our moral destiny prepared for us by God. If all or most people would live personally ethical lives, then the world as a whole likely would not require saving. Good point.

Dennis Prager is likely the last word on how to lead a happy life in this world. He did say on the radio the other day that he has strived for inner peace, inner control of his emotions despite what the world throws at him, and he strives for inner happiness each day, despite what is going on out in the world. This advice is critical for each of us to work on.

Both Peterson and Prager are offering solid advice on how to lead a happy, fulfilling life. I would add that egoist ethics, and the religious life of self-realization, as a self-sacrifice to God, help. If one is morally sound and grateful, then one is much more inclined to be happy.

The spiritual spring of goodness feeds the fertile pasture of moral goodness. Moral goodness is love of God, the self and others in one’s choices, thoughts, words, and deeds. Happiness is the fruit harvested from the fig tree in this meadow.

It is impossible for an evil person to be happy. When you hate yourself and are filled with rage, selflessness, devil-worship, violence, destruction-lust, hate, jealousy, meaninglessness, ingratitude, jealousy, selfishness, deceit, resentment, and addiction to lying and playing sadomasochistic games with other group-living peers, how could you not exponentially magnify your unhappiness?

No matter how lucky, fortunate, rich, popular, and successful you are in this world, if you work for Satan and Lera, and do all you can to spread darkness in this world, you will never be happy, and you are suffering from a self-inflicted wound.
