I receive emails from the Atlas Society, and Ayn Rand think tank out of Texas. They carry among other things, quotes which I will paraphrase.
The wise Ayn Rand is quoted as advising a person has not chance to become a first hander unless she is asking the right questions. With the right questions asked she might come up with the right answers, so she has a chance of leading a productive, happy, and satisfying life.
Here are the questions: Where am I? Why am I here? Should I be here? What should I be doing?
One guest lecturer was noting that our technology is now so advanced (think if AI coming on line, perhaps a new race of beings, intelligent, whose creators were humans) that it seems miraculous.
My response: as a rational theist, I think he more accurate than he realizes and here is why. God created the world out of nothing, or out of unorganized substance—whichever is the case. God is a creator, inventor, engineer, craftsman and spiritual genius that can use spiritual energy and force to overrule occasionally the laws of nature that God put into place and still administrates to keep the ordered world functioning smoothly.
From my vantage point, we do not know what technology God has made and will construct in heaven, on earth, in other galaxies or in other dimensions that are artificially constructed, physical and digital technologies to do needed work. The Divine Couple, in this technician/inventor role could be somewhat like Hephaestus the divine Greek blacksmith.
At the same time God still uses spiritual technology or miracles to override natural law here and earth and elsewhere.
So the secular humanist lecturer presented by Atlas Society is more right than he realizes when saying our advances technology seems miraculous, partially because we as lay people using and enjoying this miraculous and fabulous technology do not know how it works not understanding its governing its ruling principles, and partially it seems mysterious, miraculous and beyond the comprehension of human users let alone inventers, but it is not incomprehensible to either. It just required great skill, learning and skill to make such advanced technology work seamlessly.
Another reason that the super-advanced technology seems miraculous, and the miraculous could one day be done by the application of advanced, advanced technology is that they both spring from the same well of innovation. The Divine Couple, as spiritual creators and as material, mechanical engineers, in both roles, operate on and from outside of nature, use their craft skills and spiritual powers and deep psychic power and force to miraculously override natural law upon occasion.
As material engineers they can do the same, tinkering in a divine workshop not unlike a machine shop or research lab used by technicians, scientists and inventors on earth.
Both technological efforts and miraculous changes are from outside of nature, working in the natural world, overriding, or supplementing natural law in the world.
