Required

I looked at a Christian homily from a 1/25/2023 The Cavalier Chronicle, on Page 7 and entitled Three Requirements. This homily was for 1/29/2023; I will write it out and then comment on it: “Justice doesn’t just happen. It requires action on our part. Kindness should be a way of life. Humility is knowing God is God and we are not. In church this week, consider these expectations that God has of us. . . . walk humbly with your God. Michah 6:1-8.”

My response. We want to be kind as a way of life, but requires several things. First, we must know right from wrong. We have to have been raised to have a good will, a free will to be kind, seek justice and be kind to ourselves and to those around us on a micro-level, and then have the courage to take stances, unpopular or not, communally and politically that promote human justice.

I am for humans being proud of their records and person if they have earned it as morally and spiritually good persons. Still, we should be humble towards God, deferential and respectful, and, yet, God does not mind if we are proud of what we have achieved—that is solid and not vain—as long as our pride in ourselves, based on merit and achievement, is in no sense competing with the Jesus or other divinities, a game that we should not engage in and cannot triumph at. Just be square with God and show share some praise, appreciation, gratitude, and truthful loyalty.

Walk with God. That makes the whole journey of life work better.
