Meaured

On Page 7 of the 11/1/2023 The Cavalier Chronicle, was printed the following homily, entitled Measuring Up; this homily was for the 11/5/2023 service, and is from the 1992 Revised Common Lectionary. I will quote the article and then comment on it: “God has standards. Everything isn’t OK for us. The Bible tells us how to live lives that reap God’s approval. Funny, isn’t it, how living that way gains the approval of people too? Hear more about good living this week in church . .  lead a life worthy of God. 1 Thessalonians 2:9-13.”

My response: God does have standards of behavior for us to meet, or do our best to meet. We are born sinful, but bright with free will, so, without moral values, we quickly turn to serious sin, crime, and lawlessness. I do not have much to add to this wise and accurate homily, but to reiterate that moral and spiritual goodness track together, so do your best. We are all monitored all the time—nothing is secret for very long.
