Not Exalted

On Page 7 of The Cavalier Chronicle, dated 9/27/2023, was the weekly homily for October 1, 2023. This homily, from the 1992 Revised Common Lectionary was entitled, Try On Humility. I will quote this article and then comment on it.

“The early Church discouraged people from exalting themselves. God took care of the exalting. Can we follow the example of our Christian forbears? In church this week, give it a try.

 . . . make my joy complete: be of the same mind . . . . Philippians 2:1-13.

My response: I want people to be proud and have self-esteem, especially if merited by their good works, their successful create based in merit and hard work, if they are loving spouses, or self-realize, or contribute to the needs. People need to be proud of their achievements, but in a quiet, calm, self-assured way.

I do not think Jesus, or the good deities approve of those that boast and strut, especially turning their backs on God, living in wickedness and rebellious sinning.

We should be humble so we can be grateful and carry a joyful but tranquil attitude of appreciation for everything. Be proud but do not act proud. Exalt Jesus and the other deities in a mode of composed but appreciative sacred humanism.
