Exodus 24:16-18

The verses that follow are from Exodus 24:16-18, and this translation is from The New American Bible. It is followed by another translation from the Holy Bible (KJV). What is described in these verses is the amazing transaction underway where God shares the Ten Commandments with Moses by inviting Moses to visit Him in person on His holy mount. The consuming fire on the mountaintop is viewed by the Israelites below, as a regarded as the glory of God. What a concept, what a description.

Here is the first translation: “The glory of God settled on Mount Sinai. The cloud covered it for six days, and on the seventh day he called to Moses from the midst of the cloud. To the Israelites the glory of the Lord was seen as a consuming fire on the mountaintop. But Moses passed into the midst of the cloud as he went up onto the mountain; and there he stayed for forty days and forty nights.”

Here is the second translation: “And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.”

My response: Notice how Yahweh labored on readying His meeting with Moses for six days, and then he rested and met with Moses on the seventh day, and this seems to parallel resting from labor for humans on the holy, seventh day.

Holy Bible: “And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount for forty days and forty nights.”
