The Collective

I subscribe to The Cavalier Chronicle, and the paper on 6/26/24 carried a weekly homily entitled, United We Stand. This article on Page 7 is one I copy below and then comment on.

Homily: “The early church chose to blend individuals into a strong unit.”

My response: Often, in history, groups banded together for survival purpose and that was effective and necessary. Today, we want a society of individuating supercitizens politically and denominationally, and, in this unprecedented situation, they can be maximally individual and yet unite when necessary or for comfort or enjoyment.

Homily: “That’s the only reason we can be in our churches today. Can we regain the unity of Jesus’ early followers. We can work on that this week in church.

Let us work for the good of all. Galatians 6: (1-6) 7-16.”

My response: We do not require that level of groupism to survive or please Jesus, the Individuator. As pious individuators, we will be working for the good of each individual, for the good of all, and, as living angels we will be best situated to serve Jesus and the other good deities.
