I subscribe to The Cavalier Chronicle, and it week it carries a short homily on Page 7, and the one for 1/29/25 was entitled Where To Begin? I copy the homily below and comment on it/
Homily: “Most people would say, ‘Begin at the beginning’. That a challenge if you don’t know where the beginning is.”
My response: One should start at the beginning if one knows where it is, or, if one is in the middle of a puzzle or problem, perhaps one plugs away from where one is at. The main thing is to select a goal conducive to pleasing God, caring for your family, and that is conducive to your happiness and well-being in this world and the next. Just work towards it a little each day, and you will make progress towards that end, whether you ever reach it or not: that will suffice.
Homily: “If you want to be wise, start by relating to God appropriately. Then, God can show you. Learn more from God this week in church.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Psalm 111.”
My response: It never hurts to listen to what God is telling you, and if you fear and respect God and humbly ask for guidance, you will receive it, though it may not be what you want to hear, to be said in a language that you understand.
Start you journey of self-discovery by discovering who God is, and how you can learn about truth by loving and learning about God, and then you will find your grounding, you route, your destination.
