We need a conscience so that we know how we are to act. We need to love the truth so that, as much as possible, our actions are consinsent with a clean conscience owned, operated and enjoyed by a good person, acting well most of the time.
If we act in praiseworthy ways, we can be proud of what we are, how we have acted, and the person that we have become. Our conscience will be clear.
If we are wicked scum, we should be ashamed of what we are, degraded, nasty, larcenous, violent, coercive, mendacious, cowardly, lazy, incurious, self-indulgent, submissive and intolerant.
