Stiff-Neckedness

Stiff-Neckedness is the durable, prideful, consistent rebellion on the part of haughty sinners, resisting God’s commands. This persistent, stubborn opposition to the Good Spirits, truth, love and doing the right thing.

This willingness to be wrong and stay wrong-headed is a resistance to what is good and right. Any ambitious idealist out to reform America had better take notice, realizing and accepting that this solid commitment to folly, sin, ignorance and error, recurring generation after generation, runs deep as to seem ineradicable.

People refuse to do what is right because they do not know how to live—in part—because born wicked inclines people to enjoy sinful living, and because traditions of wicked practices allow such entrenched customs to repeat themselves repeatedly, without abating.

It is not hard to deceive oneself and one’s group members, when one has made lying the way of life, which entails suppressing weak personal consciences and stifling communal consciousness.

To appreciate how strong and unending evil is is to be startled and humbled when one brags about how effective against it one will be, triumphant. The battle against evil is eternal, as the forces of darkness will always be with us, more or less victorious, in our particular generation, but we still must fight the good fight as long as we live, whether we prevail or not.
