The Movie

Last night we watched again one of my favorite movies, the 2001 thriller, Along Came a

Spider, starring Morgan Freeman and Monica Potter. In the move Cross and Flanigan discuss if one is: you are what you do, or you do what you are.

That got me intrigued. I believe the answer is complicated. Assuming that we have free will, it is apparent that you are what you do, be your choice to be good or bad, to maverize or to nonindividuate.

To claim that you do what you are seems like a cop out to me. We choose what we will be; we are responsible in the eyes of the Good Spirits, for what we choose to do, if we live up to that ethical goal or not. Once you choose what you will be, then if you are true to that choice to the best of your abilities, then you will do what you are or at least have become.

If you choose to be virtuous and holy while maverizing, then you will become what you do, and that is exemplary.
