Ayn Rand And Ethics

 Ayn Rand, on Page 14 of her book, The Virtues of Selfishness, asks: "Is ethics a subjective luxury--or an objective necessity?"

My response: we must have a code of ethics to live by, it is not a luxury; it is a necessity but it is not purely an objective necessity; it is an objective necessity in the major emphasis, and an emotional or subjective necessity in the minor emphasis.
