Exodus 23:1-3

Here is the quote from The New American Bible: “You shall not repeat a false report. Do not join the wicked in putting your hand, as an unjust witness, upon anyone. Neither shall you allege the example of the many as an excuse for doing wrong, nor shall you, when testifying in a lawsuit, side with the many in perverting justice. You shall not favor a poor man in his lawsuit.”

My response: I admire these passages. It would seem that Yahweh is making clear that his sides with truth and justice over lying, slandering, defaming, and bearing false witness against others. It does not make it write to so behave immorally because everyone is lying and slandering. You must not perjure yourself in a lawsuit, even if to aid a poor man is winning his action.

God is not only a god of love and justice, but God loves goodness and truth above almost anything else.

Here is this same quote from the Holy Bible (KJV): “Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment: Neither shall thou countenance a poor man in his cause.”
