Genesis 1, 2:1-3

For 6 days God worked hard creating cosmos, the order that was heaven and earth, but on the 7th day he rested. The principle of moderation even works here: work hard, and then rest, play, enjoy leisure, take it easy. Work is much of your life, but it is not all of your life. Rest on that 7th day: "Thus the heavens and the earth and all their array were completed. Since on the 7th day God was finished with the work that he had been doing, he rested on the 7th day from all the work that he had undertaken. So God blessed the 7th day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation." (The New American Bible)

God did not need to rest because was was finite and of limited power, but rested because natural law ordains that balance and harmony require not continuous rest and God lives in accordance his own crafted divine laws.

Here is the same passage from Holy Bible--KJV: "Thus the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the 7th day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
