The Proper Sacrifice Psalm 51, 18-19

God is displease with hypocrites and phonies that offer sacrifices to buy God's allegiance and forgiveness. They are fooling themselves, for they can never deceive God who is a brilliant, powerful clairvoyant that reads human minds, souls, hearts, movements, voice tones and body language to detect any falseness, latent hesitation or insincerity coveyed by the supplicant.

Mercy and a honest contrition before fancy, formal rituals and sacrifices. That is what God wants and expects; if these basic conditions are met, then the sacrifices are enjoyed by God and well-received: "For you are not pleased with sacrifices; should I offer a holocaust, you would not accept it. My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit; a heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn."
