Elizabeth Warren

She has voiced support for abolishing the Electoral College system. I read a commentary article online by David Harsanyi, a senior editor at the Federalist. He wrote this article on 3/22/19.

David notes that America is not a democracy but is a constitutional republic precisely because the Electoral College prevents Leftist propounded authoritarianism to go forth with a few populous states dominating all with permanent one-party rule, a socialist Ameritopia. He complains that the Democrats are not attacking all the foundation ideas of American governance, the legacy of Obama's transforming America.

David writes: "Most of the Founding Fathers believed that a diffuse democracy would weaken the ability of politicians to scaremonger and rely on emotional appeals to take power. Most of them believed that proportional voting would blunt the vagaries of the electorate and help ensure national stability."

The Founding Fathers deeply understood that people were flawed and tended to be corrupted by centralized power, and, under majoritarian democracy, a socialist dictatorship wiping out liberty, prosperity and the individual rights for all, fueled by pure majority rule, the popular vote,  would be the horrible and inevitable outcome.

To quote David again about the advantages of the Electoral College: "In direct national elections--with vast spaces to cover and limited time to campaign--candidates would be incentivized to rack up as many votes as they could in accessible urban areas with huge media markets. The Electoral College, imperfect as it is, forces candidates to moderate their views, create coalitions, and appeal to voters in disparate areas."

David concludes the article by criticizing Democrats for wanting to change the Constitution because their core notions about governance conflict with the Constitution, and it is in their way holding them back from amassing ever more power faster, by growing big, sprawling government.

The Constitution, with its idea about proportional voting, states rights and decentralized power, is a direct roadblock of Leftist aggression against a free America that they cannot yet totally control and subjugate.
