Fantastic

 

On Page 31 of his book, The Passionate State of Mind, Eric Hoffer wrote two entries which I will quote and then comment on.

 

Hoffer: “            40

 

Man is indeed a fantastic creature; and nothing about him is so fantastic as the alchemy of his crushed soul which transmutes shame and weakness into pride and faith.”

 

My response: This psychological generalization about humans may be one of Hoffer’s most insightful and original. I cannot think, offhand, of another thinker or psychologist so able to depict how complex, biological, and yet metaphysical, are humans, who undergo unimaginable suffering inflicted upon them by themselves and by the elites that dominate them, and then come up with amazing responses to such avoidable suffering.

 

Hoffer recognizes that humans are postlapsarian, that they are born wicked or selfless, that they are altruist and innately prefer to run in packs.

 

He has identified, perhaps in a way superior to ways accentuated by others, that no human can live for very long with purpose and meaning, and a sense of personal worth.

 

If she is an accomplished, self-developing, artistic woman, with perhaps faith in a good deity, her sense of self-worth, applied to herself by herself, will be a self-characterization that is accurate, realistic, and uplifting.

 

If she is a creative and mental dud, a group-living follower and popular, nonindividuating mediocrity, she will know that self-respect is unavailable to her due to her selfish, lazy, cowardly refusal to stand up as a separate individual and individuators, the only avenues for gaining applicable, genuine self-respect. Since the various noble causes and reasons for living that avail themselves to individuators, are not causes and reasons that she can orient herself to in a healthy manner, she must settle for collectivized causes and radicalized reasons to give her, now prime for true believer role, a sense of pseudo-purpose (mass movement membership) and a cause that she can serve and rally around (a holy cause).

 

The only sense of worth which she can claim honestly, and the only sense of worth available to her, is group-esteem and pride (group pride). What she has been degraded to, willingly and by external and communal tyrannical forces binding her, she is now not a good person, not doing brilliant or creative work, she is working for a cause that will spread evil in the world, and hurt millions of people. This web of activities, disgusting, immoral and pathetic, are what she has come to proudly support and proclaim, the one holy cause, the one truth faith, to be shared with the world, because it is the best thing going.

 

This woman, this fantastic creature, the crushed soul, with here neighboring brother and sister comrades, have transmuted their shame and weakness into pride and faith, and the world largely admires this army of true believers, and get behind their holy cause.

 

 

Hoffer: “            41

 

It has often been said that power corrupts. But it is perhaps equally important to realize that weakness, too, corrupts. Power corrupts the few, while weakness corrupts the many. Hatred, malice, rudeness, intolerance, and suspicion are the fruits of weakness. The resentment of the weak does not spring from any injustice done to them but from their sense of inadequacy and impotence. They hate not wickedness but weakness. When it is in their power to do so, the weak destroy weakness wherever they see it. Woe to the weak when they are preyed upon by the weak.The self-hatred of the weak is likewise an instance of their hatred of weakness.”

 

My response: One cannot read this paragraph, as least as I read it, without reaching some conclusions. First, people are born evil. Second, evil exists as a metaphysical reality. Third, humanity cannot survive unless they read this paragraph, and adopt Mavellonialist morality as an antidote to this collective poison, daily spiritual injections of self-hate, administered into the arms of billions of souls, each day, by Evil Spirits.

 

Yes, power corrupts, but less so, and less often does the lack of power, the wrong kind of power, and excessive concentrations of power corrupt.

 

Power is the ability to do work and wield influence in the world. The Father and the Mother are almost all powerful (Only Fate is all-powerful and all-powerless) but they are also almost all-loving, all-knowing, and all-good. They wield power and have for trillions of years in the past, and will for trillions of years into future, but having, using, and administering power corrupts them almost not at all.

 

The Light Couple, the Good Sprits and good people, individuals and individuators, wield loving, wholesome power that can and does corrupt them a little, but mostly it does not: this is the personal power of powerfulness, which is the supernatural and natural power given by God or nature to a being at its inception, and how it maverizes its potential into actuality is the real world instantiation of the power of powerfulness capacity.

 

Satan and Lera, the Dark Couple, their Evil Spirits, and wicked human followers, most of whom are joiners and nonindividuators while a few are individuals and individuators: wield the corrupting, malevolent, hating, and hateful, destructive, wicked kind of power, the power of powerlessness.

 

For the children of light, their goodness and love increases in quality, quantity and reach as they set up, run, live in and cooperate in a society, a constitutional, free-market republic, which maximizes personal liberty so each individuating supercitizen can actualize her potential, manifesting her creations and production in the physical world, manifesting to all how her power of powerfulness has been applied.

 

For the children of darkness, their wickedness and hatred harden and fester among the whole population as they hate and sulk, cannibalize and live off of each others as parasites, group-living, nonindividuating, and selflessly sacrificing their person needs and care, for the sake of service to and subservient obedience granted to their tyranny, their caste society, their institutions, their class systems, pecking order system of an elite, a few corrupted by power at the top as tyrants, exploiters, rulers and oppressors of the masses held down and back at the bottom of the heap, suffering willingly because they feel this is all they deserve anyway.

 

Almost all are groupist, and all are slaves serving the Evil Spirits in this rotten social order, group-oriented and justified by the altruist-collectivist morality, that cover for the wicked social arrangement made possible and held together by the Evil Spirits, the wielders of the power of powerlessness behind the scenes.

 

Power that corrupts the elite or the strong at the top of the heap is the same power of powerlessness that corrupts the weak or the masses at the bottom of the heap. The weak, subjugated masses are resentful, not because they are oppressed, exploited, whipped, tortured and and terrorized, but because they are part of the subjugated weak masses.

 

These resentful masses, once frustrated and ready to revolt when their mass movement is active, are ready to revolt, not for reasons of right wrong, ending injustice and unfairness, but because they hope to be part of the strong, the new elite, the new exploiters, oppressors and torturers inflicting terror and harm upon the helpless tribes and groups that are now the new masses to be inflicted upon.

 

God help the individuals, the children of light, ethnic minorities, and the great souls in any generation when the weak, the mob, are on the rampage: they seek to kill and wipe out the weak in their society, in their generation, because these victim groups remind them of their own weakness, so they seek to kill these living reminders of their own sad, suffering past. In attacking the weak and innocent, the masses grow in evil and damnation prospects.
