Psalm 51, 5-6

We always can approach most merciful God, but we must acknowledge that we are sinners, living in sin, and striving to reduce how blemished our souls are: "For I acknowledge my offense, and my sin is before me always: 'Against you only I have sinned and done what is evil in your sight--That you may be justified in your sentence, vindicated when you condemn.'"
