Prager

I do not know if Dennis Prager is the wisest man alive, but I would say he is in the top ten. He is famous for lamenting that people take the easy way out and do not fight evil, because they are cowards.

These remarks are factual: people are born flawed, so it is unnatural and learned behavior to do the right thing, the hard thing, especially going against one’s group and peers, going against those that are popular.

People are naturally cunning but unwise, so fighting evil is the right thing to do, but it can be costly in terms of being dangerous, unprofitable, and just unrewarding hard work in this world, though fighting evil is critically necessary for the benefit of the community, and for saving one’s soul.

We naturally are cowardly, but we can learn to be brave in spite of being afraid, a natural reaction to whatever we fear.

We are fatalistic, masochistic creatures, too inclined to take orders from superiors and authority figures. We feel what we group up with is right, and are disinclined to think, challenge what is, and seek to overturn it.

We also tend to do whatever the pack does, and they usually do not display courage- that is an individual commitment.

Ere can do what is right, we can learn to think and take the high road—that is what Jesus and the Good Spirits expect from us.
