Their hit song (Born To Be Wild) is a great song but it is not how human nature is set up in us by God. It is not true that we are born to be wild. We are born wild, savage, barbaric, immoral, and uncivilized, but we are born to work hard to become a good person, creative, achieving, civilized, lawful, courteous, and socialized.
We require character development so that our puny consciences and weak wills can be strengthened and toughened enough for us to will to be ethically and spiritually decent persons.
As evolved maverizers, living productive, creative lives of self-control amidst all our creative processes unfolding; this is self-discipline more than self-release from limits, or self-indulgence, but we do some of these characteristics and behaviors too.
We can live self-realized lives of self-regulation, a pattern of achievement grounded in ordered liberty. This is our freedom and adult destiny as we are born to become what we can become.
