Now that the Supreme Court has struck down racial and other quotas for hiring or for admission to colleges, it is time to assert or reassert that each individual should be treated fairly, as an equal, but his guaranteed equality of opportunity must be matched by his individual initiative and performance so that his promotion or admission to college is based on merit, not the color of his skin or his group affiliations.
