The inclination to go for the kill against someone that is sick, shattered or devastated, at a low point of maximum personal vulnerability, is an especially vicious tendency. The perpetrator of such unspeakable cruelty, to gain power or concessions over the helpless victim, reveals a ruthless person without mercy or scruple.
On the other hand, one could trust one’s life to a person of compassion and mercy who, when encountering the same helpless person, child or pet, comforts, and succors them, seeking to reduce their low state of feeling blue, ill or shattered, giving them a help hand up.
The tendency that people reveal when coming upon the defenseless is a genuine mirror into the souls of the various responders.
