Genesis, Chapter 38

Onan refused to impregnate his widowed sister-in-law so Yahweh was displeased with him and struck him dead.

There is a direct communication and line of immediate response between God and obedient or offending humans in the Old Testament that seems rare or absent today.

It could be that today--more often that we realize--God directly intervenes, or sends a messenger to reward or punish someone for what they have done or said.

Again, as we individuate and bring heaven to earth as a norm for living humans, then immediate contact with angels, messenger and even the Father or the Mother is conceivable, welcome and overdue.
