Right To Farm

According to the NYT, in an 8-2-2014 article by Julie Bosman, Missouri has an constitutional amendment to the state constitution being voted on soon, giving its people the right to farm and ranch.

It sounds like rural conservatives do not want the Humane Society, the animal rights crowd and ecologists passing laws to give hen's more room or to outlaw genetically modified crops. If the amendment passes, it would rule state laws, not federal laws ruling agriculture.

Conservatives in Missouri are starting to rise up and fight back. They do not want state and federal laws so some health inspector goes to every farm with a tape measure to measure chicken coops. They do not want expensive, onerous paperwork on genetically modified crops bureaucrats forcing farmers to explain where every bushel of wheat, corn and soybeans originated from and where it was shipped, as accounted for as refrigerants under the EPA. They resent and want to prevent further loss of individual and business liberty as more and more feds and their regulators and inspectors examine and direct every aspect of formerly private lives.

The Missourians have a right to religion, guns, speech and maybe the right to farm. These are the organized, formal lengths conservatives must go to to back on the Left and the growth of the nanny state.

If people do not want to each genetically modified food, or worry about the space a hen has to lay eggs, then start a food cooperative movement to financially reward farmers that conform to those needs and wants. We have to scale way back at adding statutes and new inspectors to further erode private, free living.

It is not excessive what the Missourians are doing. They are trying to lead in taking back their state and their country from statist aggressors, and that is a noble, worthy counter-revolution that needs conducting and supporting.

We need to scale back the state and to impress upon liberal dogooders to resort to voluntary measure and live-and-let-live policies, not depriving others of their power and independence.
