Exodus 14:28-31, Feared

Here is a quote from The New American Bible about what happened to Pharaoh and his army when they recklessly pursued the Hebrews. If I saw God part the ocean for my enemies, I would be inclined to head the other direction—not Pharaoh: “As the water flowed back, it covered the chariots and the charioteers of the Pharaoh’s while army which had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not a single one of them escaped. But the Israelites had marched on dry land in the midst of the sea, with water like a wall to their right and to their left. Thus the Lord saved Israel on that day from the power of the Egyptians. When the Israelites saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore and beheld the great power that the Lord had shown against the Egyptians, they feared the Lord, and believed in him and his servant Moses.”

My response: this dramatic miracle would instill fear in me too.

Here is the same passage from the Holy Bible (KJV): “And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. But the children of Israel marched on dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hard, and on their left. Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hands of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore. And Israel saw that great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians; and the people feared the Lord and his servant Moses.”

My response: I enjoyed that phrase, the children of Israel—it is rather a term of endearment and affection towards God’s children.
