Witnessing

I got a weekly homily out of The Cavalier Chronicle, Page 7, entitled First-Hand, The date of the newspaper was 10/25/2023. The homily was for Sunday, 10/29/23; it was taken from the 1992 Revised Common Lectionary. I will quote the homily and then respond to it.

Homily: “A witness tells the truth he sees. If it’s truth, truth prevails. Does it take courage to tell the truth? To tell our experience and what we heard and saw? Hear the Gospel truth this week in church . . . we had courage in our God to declare to you the gospel . . . . 1 Thessalonians 2:1-8.”

My response: An honest witness with courage, a love of truth, and no desire to deceive, should come close to speaking the truth about what he heard, saw, and experienced. He should be a rather reliable, believable witness. To share the Gospel is to invite people to know God and learn the truth, the real truth.
