Egoism And Christianity

I am sharing a weekly homily posted on Page 7 of The Cavalier Chronicle; it is a reading for Sunday, (9/17/23) from the 1992 Revised Common Lectionary, and its title is Me, Myself and I: “It is crushing to discover we are not the center of the universe. However, when we truly care for others, our needs are met. Life is not all about us; it’s about ‘them’ and God. Learn these truths this week in church. . . . we do not live to ourselves Romans 14: 1-12.”

My response: I am an egoist, and I have never thought that I was the center of the universe, but, for purposes of living as a great soul, a developed living angel, the individuator’s moral duty and primary directive from the good deities, all-perfect or near-perfected Individuators themselves (And Jesus is one of the greatest among them.), the individual’s primary but not sole focus in a life well-lived and well-administered is to pursue enlightened self-interests that will make him happy.

When he is happy, fulfilled and living as the Good Spirits, intended that he should live, then his self-love is so wholesome, positive and solid, that his good will uplift and benefit all of those around him, extend the kingdom of Jesus upon the earth, and uplift his neighbors. Where a majority of living angels are maverizing as he is, then the world will be close to being heaven on earth.

When we care for ourselves first, then our needs are met, and, indirectly, the needs of others are met, and if they are maverizing too, they do not much rely on us for anything, but still enjoy our friendly cooperation as their neighbors.

Life is not all about us, but it is mostly about us, if we self-realize, and that is how we benefit others and God, and that is how our fulfillment of our needs to meet our enlightened self-interests are transmuted into being about others and God, a way that uplifts all.

We do not live to ourselves, but we exert positive energy to others, by cleaning up our room at home first, to quote Peterson.

As Christians move from altruist-egoist ethical orientation to egoist-altruist orientation, Judeo-Christians values can be updated for the 21st century and moral progress will be made here on earth with blessing and approval from heaven and the good deities sponsoring us.
