I am copying a weekly homily froth The Cavalier Chronicle, Page 7 and entitled Honestly … It is meant for August 6, 2023, and is from the Revised Common Lectionary 1992: “Pontius Pilate cynically asked Jesus, ‘What is the truth?’ Jesus is truth. His truth has held up for generations. If we seek truth, begin with his standards. Hear God’s truth this Sunday in church. I am speaking the truth in Christ. Romans 9:1-5.”
My response: It is the truth that Jesus is truth. Jesus or any benevolent deity loves clarity, the light, the truth, no matter how disappointing, how shocking, or distasteful it is at first to hear the bracing truth. Jesus is love and there can be no love without truth suffusing all those involved in an act of communication, between human and human, or between a human and Christ.
Strive to be honest and objective and become the truth as Jesus was and is.
