Never Assume

I am writing of a weekly homily printed in The Cavalier Chronicle, on 6/14/23. It is from the Revised common Lectionary, 1992, for Sunday, June 18, 2023, and its title is How Absurd!.

Here it is: “We laugh at obviously ridiculous things. The Bible records Sarah laughing at God’s promise of a son. She was too old. She knew facts were facts. God knew otherwise. God’s promises are no laughing matter. Hear more this week in church . . . Sarah laughed . . . Genesis 18: 1-15.”

My response: Never assume anything. Yes, facts are facts, and the law of averages are what they are, and likely no miraculous exception will change things, but they could with God’s intelligent, blessed intervention.  And we should not scoff at or laugh at God’s promises.
